BASIC TRAINING FOR FUTURE ENGINEERS
Future engineers learned about introduction to topics such as machine learning, robot development, medical physics, etc. from its experts. 30 students rolled their sleeves up to become scientists of the future at TESLA Lab of Faculty of Engineering; Izmir University of Economics (IUE) within the “Dâhilerin Gözünden Bilim ve Teknoloji (Science and Technology through the Eyes of the Geniuses)” titled TUBITAK Project developed by Bornova Anadolu High school (BAL).
Asst. Prof. Gazihan Alankuş, Head of IUE Department of Mechatronics Engineering, Asst. Prof. Kaya Oğuz, Faculty Member from IUE department of Computer Engineering, Lecturer İlker Korkmaz, Assoc. Prof. Devrim Ünay, Head of IUE Department of Biomedical Engineering, taught students the initial steps of computer programming, game development, principles of robotics, and medical image processing.
Asst. Prof. Gazihan Alankuş indicated that they spent two days with youth interested in engineering. Alankuş said, “Students gained information and experience about wide range of advanced technologies as a result of these trainings. They have taken important steps in becoming scientists of the future. They experienced an entertaining learning process. They received in-depth information about the professions which would help them in making the best choices regarding their program/university selections.”
'The Best of BAL'
Dr. Duygu Vargör Vural, the Coordinator of the “Dâhilerin Gözünden Bilim ve Teknoloji (Science and Technology through the Eyes of the Geniuses)” titled TUBITAK Project, reported that the project was supported by both Izmir University of Economics and Ege University. Vural, who stated that the students attended training courses at the laboratories of universities, said, “The aim of our project is to allow gifted and talented students of Bornova Anadolu High school to engage with current technologies. We wanted to contribute to raising these students by making them to get basic training on artificial intelligence, robotics, coding, virtual and augmented reality, engineering application. This year 30 students attended these trainings. We hope to continue this program with increased numbers of students in years to come”.
