EXHIBITIONS' CURATOR FROM FACULTY OF FINE ARTS AND DESIGN
“Dream Logic” and “Memorabilia” exhibitions, curated by Asst. Prof. Özgül Kılınçarslan of the IEU Faculty of Fine Arts and Design's Visual Communication Design Department, has opened for their visitors.
Merve Şendil’s new solo exhibition “Dream Logic” invites us to look at the reality of a pink polar bear in order to remember the best and the most challenging points of view as well as the otherness of imaginations coming from another planet. While the works in the exhibition build together the dreaming person and the world of the dreaming person, they momentarily estrange the images that seem to be familiar to the audience and allow to develop a network of interaction with them. It is also notable that a conversation session also took place on 3 November with the artist Merve Şendil, the curator Özgül Kılınçarslan, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Burak Erdeniz of Psychology Department at Izmir University of Economics.
The things that are worth remembering in "Memorabilia" of Can İncekara are images of various rooms of which he presents to the viewers. The consciously left space between the paintings in the exhibition also transforms this imaginary place / house into a real one. The images chosen from the artist's grandmother's house, which belong to the personal story of the artist, were placed at wide intervals to trigger another place and memory for each viewer. Thus, the memorabilia, which the name of the exhibition indicates, allows the individual (the precious thing that the individual remembers) to be transformed into the collective (the valuable thing that is remembered collectively).
"Dream Logic" exhibition is open for visits until 2 December 2018 at SANATORIUM, while "Memorabilia" is open until 8 December 2018 at REM ArtSpace Beyoglu, both in Istanbul.
